Gobi Onion Bajji

Bajji is a spicy Indian snack. Many variants of this dish are there. Its a crispy, spicy fried snack that is served as a starter also. Many veggies can be used for bajji. Today I used Cauliflower (Gobi) and Onion for my amoeba-shaped (shapeless) bajjis.

Preparation time- 15 mins

Ingredients

Cauliflower- 1/2 medium sized( around 30 florets)
Onion- 1 medium chopped
Gram flour- 1 heaped cup
Water- 1/4 cup or as required
Red chilly powder- 2 tsp
Chat masala*- a pinch
Asafoetida powder- a pinch
Salt to taste
Refined Oil as required for frying

Method

Take all the powders in a mixing bowl. Add water and mix well into a smooth paste. You can steam cauliflower florets for 10 mins either in microwave or in a steamer, for faster frying later. Else you can chop the cauliflower finely.

Add small cauliflower florets and finely chopped onions into the batter. Mix well so that the vegetables are coated in batter properly. A thick mix is needed, so add water and gram flour accordingly. Check salt and add if required.

Heat Oil in a pan. I used sunflower oil. Keep the flame in medium. Using a spoon pour the mixture into the hot oil. Turn the bajjis occasionally until it turns golden brown in color.

Serve it hot with ketchup and a steaming cup of coffee.
Happy Snack time :)

  • I used a standard 240 ml measuring cup
