Tandoori chicken

Tandoori chicken is a very healthy recipe that is traditionally made in a clay oven or tandoor. It is a famous Indian starter that originated in New Delhi. Specialty of this dish is a marination of yogurt and spices that tenders the chicken and makes cooking very easy. Today I am trying this traditional dish in Oven.

 Ingredients

Chicken- 500 gms large pieces
Salt as required
Butter- 1 tbsp
Oil- 1 tbsp
Ginger garlic paste-  1 tbsp
Garam masala- 1 tsp
Red chilly powder- 1 tbsp
Lemon- 1 no
Curd- 1/2 cup

Method
There is a two step marination process. First marinate chicken with lemon juice, salt and chilly powder. Hang curd for removing excess water. If chicken pieces are very large make incersions before applying marination.
Keep the chicken for 20 mins in a refrigerator.
Add thick curd, oil, ginger-garlic paste and garam masala into this chicken.
Mix everything well and keep the chicken for atleast 4 hours. If you can keep it overnight then chicken will be very easy to cook.
Place the chicken pieces on an oven tray or if the pieces are big place it directly on the grill. Be ready to clean the mess afterwards. Pre-heat the oven for 400 degree Fahrenheit. Cook the chicken for 10 to 12 mins. Remove from the oven , brush it with butter and keep it again in the oven for 3 more mins.
Remember to keep chicken at lowest level in oven. Also you can add chat masala on top of it.
Serve it hot with lemon wedges and onion slices.

PS:-

  • I used a standard 240 ml measuring cup.
  • Oven temperature may vary, Your chicken is ready when the sides starts turning black.
