Basic vanilla sponge cake

If you are a beginner in baking then this is the first cake that you will try. There are thousands of ways to make this. Here goes the basic vanilla sponge cake recipe that worked for me :)
Preparation time: 1 hr

Ingredients

All purpose flour- 2 cups
Sugar- 1 cup powdered
Butter- 100 gms
Egg- 2 nos medium
Milk- 1 cup
Vanilla extract- 1 tbsp
Baking powder-1 tsp heaped
Extra butter and flour for dusting cake pan

Method
These were my ingredients. Eggs and butter should be in room temperature.  Preheat the oven at 400 °F. Sieve baking powder and flour. (Caution:- Don`t skip this step or you will suffer later)
Take butter and sugar in a mixing bowl and start whipping until its creamy.
Add eggs one by one and whip. You need to whip this mixture at least for for 3 minutes at high speed. 
Add vanilla extract and 1 cup of milk. Mix in everything properly.Add flour 2 to 3 tbsp at a time and mix with a wooden spatula. Now whip the entire mixture at low speed for 1 min just to mix in. The final batter should look creamy.
I used a 9×9 inch square pan . Butter the sides of the pan and apply flour over it.
Pour the mixture at the center.  Lightly spread to sides if required. 
Keep in the oven for 30 to 45 mins. The top of the cake should be light brown. A toothpick inserted should come out clean.
Remove from the oven and let it cool in room temperature. 
Your yummy sponge cake is ready. Frosting of your choice can be added, but this plain vanilla sponge cake is good to go as such. Happy baking :)

PS:-
  • I used a standard 250 ml measuring cup. 
  • I used salted butter. If you are using unsalted butter, add a tsp of salt along with it.
  • You can prepare this cake without an electric whipper. Juz follow the basic-cake-whipping speed of 100 beat/min.
